An Experimental Study on the Effect of Alisma plantago L. to Peripheral Leucocyte Count of Albino Rat

Abstract
Alisma plantago L (APL) has been known to have possessed high titer of phytohemoagglutinin activity to human and various animal¢¥s red blood cell. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of APL on peripheral leucocyte count of albino rat. Saline extract of APL was prepared by homogenization and millipore filtration of 1.Ogm of APL native to Korea and diluted by normal physiologic saline to 1:64 Each albino rat was given 0.5ml of prepared APL extract intravenously and studied the daily changes of peripheral leucocyte count for 6 days.
The result obtained are as following:
1. Decrease of total leucocyte count after APL injection was observed.
2. Decrease of total leucocyte count was mainly due to decrease of granulocyte.
3. Increase of large lymphocyte was observed while small lymphocye count being decreased.
4. APL native to Korea seems to have possessed lymphocyte activator.
